Course Description: 8th grade Reading/Writing/Language Arts will encompass an in depth study of literature in different genres and different types of writing styles.

Course Requirements:

1)      Bring all materials to class each day. (text books, pencils, paper, journal)

2)      Participate in all class activities.

3)      Write all assignments in the agenda.

4)      Keep a Writing Notebook (journal) complete and neat. These notebooks will be picked up for a grade on a regular basis

5)      Two books must be read every month. We will have time devoted in class to read, but you are responsible for completing the books independently if as time is needed. Independent book projects must be finished before the end of the month and will count as a test grade.

6)      All work not completed in class will be assigned as homework and will be due the following day.

7)      Essay writing is an essential part of 8th grade. Students are expected to edit and revise all essays before they are submitted as a final writing.

Grades:

               Formative Assessments- 60 %

               Summative Assessments 40%

 

Late Work:

Students are encouraged to complete and hand-in all assignments. Late work will be accepted; however, points will be deducted for every day that the work is late.

Make-up Work:

It is the student’s responsibility to ask for make-up work and to complete the assignments within the time dictated by the Pickens County Code of Conduct

Behavior Management Plan:

Students are required to adhere to the rules and regulations outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. Parents will be notified if their child exhibits a behavior that interferes with the learning environment of the class.

Teacher Expectation:

I will make every effort to create an enjoyable environment for all students. I believe that we are all here to learn (including myself!), I believe you can learn, and I am here to help you reach high expectations.

To reach those goals, we have to have a respectful environment.

Regular attendance and class participation are necessary for students to successfully grasp the Georgia Performance Standards. Please make every effort to encourage your child to be in school each day.
